Burrendale Afternoon Tea - Pikalily Food Blog

A couple of weeks ago, myself and our good friend Orla decided to take on the role of ladies that lunch. Doing it in style, we headed to the Burrendale Hotel and Spa for some delicious Afternoon Tea, and we certainly were not disappointed. What followed was a week’s worth of giggles and what can only be described, on my own part, as a feeding frenzy!

A Dining Experience to Remember in Côte, Brighton

Roast Duck Cote Brighton - Pikalily Food Blog

Back in May we took a trip to the South coast of England and to the popular seaside town of Brighton, part of the city of Brighton & Hove.  We’ve already shared with you our experience of Choccywoccydoodah, but it’s not just sweet treats and chocolate that Brighton does well; it’s also a bit of a foodie hotspot.  The cobbled lanes and streets of Brighton are lined with an array of trendy cafes and bars, and some hidden treasures when it comes to finding that perfect place for an evening meal.  Once such treasure was the French influenced Côte Restaurant, which is located opposite the popular Brighton Dome.

Easy Homemade Tea Loaf Recipe

Tea Loaf Recipe - Pikalily Food Blog

While doing a quick tidy of my baking cupboard, I realised I had some dried fruit left over from Christmas that I needed to use up. With it being summer, I didn’t want to bake a heavy fruit cake, and I had too much fruit to use up to make Florentines. I decided to make a lovely moist tea cake, perfect with a cup of tea or even as part of an afternoon tea!! This recipe is super easy and makes a light yet moist tea cake. It’s quite a flexible recipe so you can use varying quantities of each dried fruit, depending on what you have. I have used Medjool dates as they are my favourite but you can use any variety. Known as the ‘King of Dates’, Medjool dates are soft, plump and sweet.

We are nominated for the Blog Awards Ireland 2014

Blog Awards Ireland Nomination - Pikalily Food Blog

It’s been a busy seven months since we first kicked off with the Pikalily food blog in January.  What started off as a hobby and a way of sharing our favourite recipes, has quickly turned into a passion for us as we are trying out new recipes, reviewing restaurants and even recording our own videos.  From hosting food chats on Twitter to connecting with many food bloggers and experts online, we’ve really learned to appreciate the growing online food community, particularly here in Ireland, of which we are delighted to be a part of.  While work can often impact on the number of blogs and recipes we publish, we are delighted with how things have gone in the first seven months, and this has resulted in Pikalily being nominated for it’s first award.

Choccywoccydoodah – A must see for chocolate lovers in Brighton

Choccywoccydoodah Brighton - Pikalily Food Blog

We took a trip to Brighton back in May for work but decided to stay on a few days to enjoy England’s south coast.  We were really impressed by Brighton and enjoyed the few days we had in the area.  We stayed in the centre of town so this made it easy for us to get around and experience everything Brighton has to offer.  We will be discussing our trip in an upcoming article, but today we wanted to talk about one of Brighton’s most popular foodie attractions – the famous Choccywoccydoodah.

Trip to St Georges Market Belfast - Pikalily Food Blog

It may be hard to believe, but having lived in Northern Ireland our entire lives we only recently decided to take a trip to the famous St George’s Market in Belfast.  We had always heard friends talk positively about the market, and after it was recently voted the best large indoor market in the UK, we decided it was time to get along and check it out.  It’s fair to say we were blown away and have since returned on numerous occasions.  This article has been a long time coming, but here is a little taster of what you can expect to see and enjoy when you visit St George’s Market.
