Luxury and Relaxation at The Culloden Hotel

Review Culloden Hotel and Spa - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

A few weeks back we went off on a little adventure to kickstart our July holidays.  First up was a lovely lunch at the Michelin Starred Deanes EIPIC (which you can read about here), followed the next day by a night of fine dining and relaxation at the luxurious 5 star Culloden Estate and Spa in the village of Cultra just outside Belfast.

Dinner Review of The River Room at Galgorm Resort & Spa

Dining at The River Room - Galgorm Hotel - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

A few weeks back we visited the Galgorm Resort and Spa for an overnight stay (you can read more about that trip here).  While we were more than impressed by the hotel facilities, and in particular the outdoor Thermal Village and spa facilities, there was another aspect of the stay that really took our breath away – the food.  We dined at the River Room on our first night, and it was a dining experience to remember.  It feels like every restaurant we’ve been to in the past 3-4 months has exceeded our expectations, and the River Room was another dining experience where this was the case.

Easy Follow Salted Caramel Squares Recipe

Salted Caramel Square Recipe - Pikalily Food Blog

We’ve been busy in the kitchen this week creating a number of treats for Nial’s birthday including our popular chocolate brownies, German biscuits, and a new recipe, salted caramel squares.  Nial took the collection of goodies into his work and shared with the guys at The Tomorrow Lab who seemed to more than enjoy them (if the empty boxes that returned home are anything to go by 🙂 ).

There’s a reason it’s called EIPIC

Tasting Menu at Deanes Eipic - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

Last Friday we visited one of Northern Ireland’s top restaurants, if not thee top restaurant, Deanes EIPIC.  Deanes EIPIC is the flagship restaurant of celebrated top local chef Michael Deane, and was recently awarded its first Michelin star, along with another Belfast restaurant, OX.  EIPIC is one of seven restaurants owned by Michael Deane and was recently named in the top 100 UK restaurants at the 2016 National Restaurant Awards, Northern Ireland’s only representative at position 83.  EIPIC was also listed the La Liste top 1000 restaurants in the world, coming in at 708, one of only two restaurants from Northern Ireland to make the list (the other being The Boathouse in Bangor, which was ranked 831st).

Fantastic Food at Hugh McCann’s, Newcastle

Review of Hugh McCanns Pub Newcastle - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

We are very fortunate in Newcastle to have so many great places to eat, with Hugh McCann’s being one of them.  With uninterrupted views of the promenade and the beach, Hugh McCann’s is a prime spot to visit.  We called in on a recent Friday night for a bite to eat and we were so impressed with the flavour, presentation and service.  The Friday night menu offers two courses and a glass of wine for £14.95 which is great value and the perfect way to start the weekend or relax after a hard week’s work.  Here’s a rundown of the food we enjoyed at Hugh McCann’s.

Luxury and Bliss at Galgorm Resort and Spa

Review of Galgorm Hotel and Spa - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

We recently spent the night at the wonderful Galgorm Resort and Spa in County Antrim to celebrate Helen’s birthday.  This was our second time at the Galgorm having previously stayed at a family wedding.  There have been a few changes over the past 2-3 years since our last stay, with the new outdoor thermal village the most prominent.  We had heard lots of good reports from friends who had been to the resort since the thermal village opened, and we couldn’t wait to spend a day lying about, relaxing and just taking it easy.  While the Galgorm is a bit of a jaunt from our home in Newcastle (about 90 minutes), it’s only 35-40 minutes from Belfast, and as we went straight from work in Belfast, it didn’t feel as long a trip which is always good.
