Dinner Review of The River Room at Galgorm Resort & Spa

Dining at The River Room - Galgorm Hotel - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

A few weeks back we visited the Galgorm Resort and Spa for an overnight stay (you can read more about that trip here).  While we were more than impressed by the hotel facilities, and in particular the outdoor Thermal Village and spa facilities, there was another aspect of the stay that really took our breath away – the food.  We dined at the River Room on our first night, and it was a dining experience to remember.  It feels like every restaurant we’ve been to in the past 3-4 months has exceeded our expectations, and the River Room was another dining experience where this was the case.

Fantastic Food at Hugh McCann’s, Newcastle

Review of Hugh McCanns Pub Newcastle - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

We are very fortunate in Newcastle to have so many great places to eat, with Hugh McCann’s being one of them.  With uninterrupted views of the promenade and the beach, Hugh McCann’s is a prime spot to visit.  We called in on a recent Friday night for a bite to eat and we were so impressed with the flavour, presentation and service.  The Friday night menu offers two courses and a glass of wine for £14.95 which is great value and the perfect way to start the weekend or relax after a hard week’s work.  Here’s a rundown of the food we enjoyed at Hugh McCann’s.

Duvet Dining TK Maxx - Pikalily Food Travel Lifestyle BlogLast week we were invited to a very quirky and magical event hosted by TK Maxx at The Treehouse in Belfast.  The invite was really intriguing with the hashtags #DuvetDining and #RidiculousPossibilities, along with the promise of a seven course dining experience created by Chef Gizzi Erskine, and we were hooked!

Tasty lunch at the Parson’s Nose, Hillsborough

Parson's Nose Review - Pikalily Food Blog

We recently took advantage of the sunny Bank Holiday at the start of May and went for a lovely drive to the Co. Down village of Hillsborough.  The pretty village is home to the Queen’s residence in Northern Ireland, Hillsborough Castle.  It also has a beautiful forest park with a lake and stunning walks.  Hillsborough has many popular eateries and we decided to stop in at one we had previously visited, The Parson’s Nose.

A 24 Hour Stay In The Slieve Donard Resort And Spa

Slieve Donard Hotel Review - Pikalily Travel Blog

The Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, Co.Down is a place we hold dear to our hearts as this is where we got married on 29th December 2014.  We were lucky enough to have a voucher for the Hastings Group so we decided to go back to the Slieve Donard and stay once again as you don’t get to fully appreciate the hotel facilities when you are caught up in the hype of getting hitched 🙂

An evening at Fratelli, Belfast

Review Fratelli Belfast - Pikalily Food Blog

A few weeks back we were invited along to try out the new menu at the Italian restaurant Fratelli, in Belfast.  The restaurant is owned by the Galgorm Hotel (an amazing hotel you should all try to get along to at some point if you get a chance) and located in the city centre along the popular Great Victoria Street (opposite the Europa Hotel and bus station).  We parked the car at a nearby car park and went along to take our seats in what was a pretty packed restaurant.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse marks a new era for Park Avenue Hotel, Belfast

Marco Pierre White Belfast - Pikalily Food Travel Blog

Last week (Friday 9th October) we attended a media preview of the new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill at the Park Avenue Hotel, Belfast. It’s a real statement of intent both for the hotel and the local area to have the famous Marco Pierre White (MPW) associated with Park Avenue in East Belfast. While we didn’t get to see the whole interior of the hotel, the fact it has evolved from modest 2 star to boutique 4 star is testament to Mandy Patrick, the third generation of this family owned hotel which has been in business since 1959. Light lunch in Harlem Cafe Belfast

Harlem Cafe Belfast - Pikalily Food Blog

On a recent excursion to Belfast with one of my friends, we stopped at the trendy Harlem Café on Bedford Street to grab a quick lunch.  We were definitely impressed with the food, service and elegant decór.  It was one of the few sunny days that we experienced over the summer months here in Northern Ireland so we both opted for a Chicken Caesar Salad.  The menu described the salad as:
