Sometimes there’s nothing quite as comforting as eating chocolate. It’s a sweet treat to tuck into during the evening, or perfect for dipping into a cup of tea. Confectionery can be made all the more special if it takes us back to our childhood.
We do enjoy a wee treat every now and again, and sometimes there’s nothing quite like relaxing with a cuppa and a bar of chocolate. Lets indulge and look back on some of our favourite chocolate over the years.
Chocolate Trends
Before sinking our teeth into some nostalgic treats, let’s explore how chocolate has changed to be. Did you know the first chocolate bar was created in the UK in 1847? Ever since the art of chocolate making has been played with and perfected. We’ve seen the different shapes, sizes, fillings and flavours. From the Easter egg to luxurious boxes. You even have the option now to get personalised chocolate. Now let’s take a trip down memory lane with five nostalgic chocolate bars!
1. Taz
There are those of us who will remember the glorious time a Freddo was 10p. It’s underrated counterpart was the Taz bar. It was a small chocolate bar filled with caramel. For those of you wanting to have the Taz experience, you can still get a caramel Freddo.
2. White Maltesers
Maltesers are definitely up there for one of the best chocolate snacks. Who remembers the time when shops were selling white Maltesers? You couldn’t get a sweeter treat. There have even been petitions to bring these back, that’s how popular they were. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see them on the shelves again.
3. Flake Snow
Another white chocolate treat that has sadly bitten the dust. It was very popular during Christmas time. It had a milk chocolate shell and a whilte chocolate center. This one just missed out on a top ten spot for the best discontinued chocolate bars.
4. Mars Delight
Looking closer at this list and moving up further up the ranks, you’ll find the Mars Delight bar. The original Mars bar is made up of milk chocolate, nougat and caramel. The Mars Delight was a lighter, crispy option and – let’s just say it – pretty delightful.
5. Dream
For those wondering which bar got that number one spot: Dream bar. It’s essentially a white chocolate dairy milk. It’s not the dream that white chocolate seems to get discontinued so much. For those of you wanting to get your fix of it, don’t worry. There are still ways you can get your hands on one
