You will most likely have been sent an abundance of happy birthday flowers from friends and family this past year whilst celebrating a birthday at home during lockdown. Knowing what to do with all these flowers is probably something you have asked yourself as you look around and find you have endless bouquets.
Instead of just having an array of vases filled with flowers, you could be a little creative instead, in order to add a touch of colour and fragrance to various rooms in your home. It will also give you something different to do at home. Here are five things to consider.
1. Create Your Own Potpourri
One you notice that some of the fresh flowers start to wilt and dry, you could pull off the petals, place them into a bowl and then once they are completely dried up, pour a few drops of essential oils on top to release a lovely natural fragrance into the room.
It can be particularly useful to do this with a bouquet of flowers that were very special to you, such as wedding flowers or a bouquet from a special anniversary.
2. Creative Wall Art
Instead of having a painted canvas, you could create your own floral wall art using the fresh flowers from your bouquet. Flowers such as Carnations, Chrysanthemum’s, Baby’s breath, Amaranthus, Dahlia and Peonies, will work well as they can survive without constantly being soaked in water, and are a little more study to pin to the canvas. Be as creative as you like when you arrange them onto the blank canvas.
3. Flower Wreath
Leading up to Christmas time you probably noticed a lot of festive wreaths adorned on people’s front doors. So why not have one to introduce the arrival of Spring instead. You could use flowers like lilies, roses, carnations, tulips, verbenas and orchids, which provide a variety of different shapes and colours. The more vibrant you can make it, the more visually stunning it can be.
4. Plant Them In Your Garden
If you want to try and encourage regrowth for your favourite flowers you can try to replant them into a pot covered with fresh earth or in a patch in your garden. Varieties such as hydrangeas, roses, azaleas, honeysuckle and lilacs should be able to grow in the earth even if they have been originally cut down for the bouquet. This will then provide you with more permanent lasting flowers for you to enjoy.
5. Create Your Own Natural Bath Salt
With the buds of your favourite flowers you can easily turn them into a floral bath blend when you want to have a nice relaxing bath. All you would need is a separate food blender to mix together the dried flowers, coarse salt, and some essential oils such as lavender, rose or geranium.
This will also ensure you know what ingredients are going into your bath product. Ideally the more natural, the better for your skin.
