Smoothie bowls are very much on trend at the minute. Indeed, you only have to do a search on Google, Instagram or Pinterest and you’ll see a whole host of smoothie bowl recommendations, each one packed with goodness in so many ways. We recently took part in a Twitter healthy tasting session with Musgrave Marketplace and Erika Doolan which focused on a range of smoothie recipes. With National Breakfast Week this coming week, we decided to get creative in the kitchen by making our own smoothie bowl recipe. We opted for an antioxidant packed berry smoothie bowl which was vibrant in colour and packed full of great flavour. Check it out below.
Ingredients:
For the smoothie bowl:
- 1 Banana
- Cup of frozen mixed berries
- Cup of almond milk
- Cup porridge oats
- Tbsp hemp seed
- Tbsp Linwoods flaxseed, goji berry, sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds
To decorate the smoothie bowl:
- 1/2 Banana, sliced
- Pumpkin & sunflower seeds
- Raspberries
- Blueberries
- Desiccated coconut
- Goji berries
- Pomegranate seeds
Serves: 1 – 2 people
Cooking method
1. Make the mixed berry smoothie
To make the smoothie simply add the banana, frozen berries, almond milk, porridge oats, hemp seeds and mixed flax seed to a blender and blitz. You can add or remove other ingredients here to suit your own taste.
2. Pour smoothie in bowl and decorate
Once you have blended the smoothie, simply decorate it with the remaining ingredients and enjoy.
Watch the video below for a step by step guide to making this smoothie bowl. It should take you no more than 2 – 3 minutes to prepare once you have all your ingredients ready. The perfect way to start any day, and great for National Breakfast Week.
