Feeling festive, we decided to have some turkey for dinner this week, but with a twist. We had made these burgers before and they were very tasty and juicy, so we knew they would hit the spot. They are easy to make, packed with flavour and perfect with sweet potato fries. A great way to use up any uncooked turkey you might have over the Christmas period. All you have to do is mince the turkey and get down to business.
Prep time – 10 minutes
Cooking time – 30 minutes
Ingredients
500g turkey mince
100g chorizo sausage, diced
Handful fresh parsley, finely chopped
I red onion (or white if you prefer)
1 egg
1 slice white bread, made into breadcrumbs
2 tbsp. ketchup
garlic clove, crushed
salt and pepper
drizzle of olive oil
This recipe makes 4 large burgers
Cooking Instructions:
1. Make the burger mix
Add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix well together. The easiest and quickest way to do this is to use your hands. Once the burger mix has been mixed through, divide the mixture into 4 and shape into burger patties. Set the burgers on a plate ready to be cooked.
Wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat.
2. Cook the burgers
Preheat your oven to 180C. Add a light drizzle of olive oil to a large frying pan and place over a low-medium heat. Add the burgers to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd the pan- cook in two batches if necessary. Fry the burgers on each side for 2-3 minutes and place onto a lined baking tray. Place all 4 burgers into the oven and cook for around 20 minutes until coked through. The burgers shouldn’t dry out but if you wish you can cover with foil.
3. Serve and Enjoy
Serve the burgers in a fluffy bun with some sweet potato fries on the side. We used Peppup Sauce for our mix, which is a red pepper and tomato ketchup, but any tomato based sauce would work well here.
