5 Ways to Update Your Home on a Budget

Being on a budget doesn’t mean that you have to live in an outdated home. In fact, you could use it as a good excuse to get creative with your environment. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to make dramatic changes and while you probably imagine that a reinvention of your living space means that you have to rip down walls and remodel the ceilings, this isn’t the case. As part of our recent self-build project we upcycled an re-used a lot of old furniture, giving them a new lease of life, and in the process, adding some real character to our new home.

Fortunately for you – and your bank balance – there are plenty of upgrades that you can do in the home to make it look utterly beautiful, and you don’t have to break the bank to do it. There are so may interior and exterior changes that can be made to your home, and none of them have to stretch you too far. The thing is, all of them have the positive power to change the look of your home for the better, which is exactly what you could want!

Below, we share five ways to upgrade your home without going over on your budget. With Christmas fast approaching, these are quick fixes that could give your home a new lease of life for the festive season.

5 Budget Friendly Upgrades For Your Home

1. A Lick Of Paint:

A paint job is one of the quickest ways that you could invest to redecorate your house. Adding a new lick of paint to your main rooms (or even your whole house) doesn’t need to cost you the world. Paint itself can be relatively affordable, and if you’re feeling up to the challenge, there’s no reason why you can’t pull on the whites and grab your roller and tray and go. Using colour or wallpaper to create a feature wall in your home can be a cheap way to make a real impact this winter.

2 Window Treatments:

You want to add warmth to your home, right? Well, you could get some affordable custom curtains for your home that match the colour scheme for the room you’re buying them for, and you can really enjoy the new look. Curtains can dramatically transform the way a room looks, and the ones that you buy can be a beautiful way to enhance the house. Plus, there’s something warm and homely about custom curtains for the home, and you don’t need to spend the earth to achieve a great look.

3. Update The Fixtures:

Want a new bathroom look without the cost of a new suite and shower? Changing out the light switches, faucets and the shower head for new fittings can make rather a dramatic change to the room. Updating your lighting from hanging lights to chandeliers for example, can create that feeling of grandeur you always knew was missing. 4. Hardware Replacement:

While you’re there, think about the handles on the doors and the knobs on the drawers. These simple upgrades can make a room feel a lot less dated and can make a lot more sense. You can buy hardware for furniture on a budget and while most of it you can swap out on your own, there may be some items you need a hand with.

5. Power-hose Time:

You’re not a pirate, but scrubbing the deck or patio outside your home can breathe some life back into your garden, especially if it’s got some wear and tear over the past few months. Get out the pressure washer and aim it well, because you can give your whole patio area a new lease of life with the right cleaning equipment.
