4 Areas to Tackle When You Move Home

Pikalily House - Back Door - Pikalily Interiors Blog

Moving house is a really exciting time, and it can take a lot of work to get there. But even though the house is yours, it can still take a lot of time for you to feel settled. One way to help you get there quicker is with some initial move in jobs that will help your house feel a little more like home. These jobs are also a good way to assess any improvements that need to be made, ready for any big changes to begin.

Here are some of the jobs you need to tackle when you first move into your home.

Give the house a deep clean

A deep clean is a great way to start off life in your new home. Very few people are fortunate enough to move into a spotless house, and it’s even rarer that it will be ‘your’ kind of clean. Deep cleaning your new house will be a lot of work, but it will be worth it when it’s done – setting you up for a good start in your new home. Take a look at some cleaning hacks to help you get started:

Clean your chimney

If you’ve purchased a property with a fireplace, then you’ll soon realise that it can be a lot of work to maintain. Getting a chimney cleaned regularly helps to keep your home safe, but it also helps make your fire work more effectively when you need it.

It’s not a job that’s easy to do yourself, so hiring a chimney sweep is your best bet for getting the job done properly. Consider doing this during the summer when your home is drier, helping to reduce the odour that a chimney clean can cause.

Check the plumbing

While any problems with your home should’ve been identified during your survey, you can never be too careful when it comes to your plumbing. Identifying problems and blockages early will help you take action before potential leaks and water damage, and ensure that your home is running efficiently.

There are different ways to check if your plumbing is as good as new, or you can bring in a professional to give your home a more detailed look.

Get to work in the garden

It’s not just the inside of your home you need to get to work on, it’s the outside too. Getting to know your new garden and how you plan to use it can be a great way to settle in, especially during the warmer months. Making your garden your own by painting the fence, adding some plants and choosing some new garden furniture will make a big difference, helping you put your own stamp on things.

After all of the stress and chaos of moving into your new property, it’s understandable that it takes some time to settle. Getting started with some work on your home will soon help you settle in, making the place feel more like your own. Start a to-do list of the jobs you need to get done once you’ve moved in and soon enough, you’ll feel right at home.
