If you are looking for ways to make your home look wonderful even though you are on a budget, you have come to the right place. In this article, we are going to be discussing some of the awesome ways in which you can make your home look like you spent a fortune, without actually having to do so.
We are always on the hunt for bargains and small things that can make a big difference in our home. If you are interested in finding out more information on how you can do this, keep reading down below!
Add Some Colour
One of the simplest things that you can do is just to add some colour to your home. Adding colour around your home, especially as we enter the summer months can have a big impact. Whether it’s new paint to your walls or some bright wallpaper to make a feature wall, or pops of material on your furniture (cushions and throws can work really well), this is the time of the year to start thinking about injecting some colour in your home.
Reds and pinks in particular work well this time of the year, while the pantone colour for 2019, “Living Coral”, is something that will work so well in many homes, and something to expect to see when you’re out and about shopping for pieces for your home in the coming months.
You should be looking to update the colours of your home every couple of years, just to keep it feeling fresh and new while still maintaining your home feel. This doesn’t have to be anything complicated, for example, it could simply be adding a new line of colour to any given wall.
New colours are wonderful and really bring out the feel of a home. You can change these whenever you like as it is not difficult to do, but the impacts that it could have could be significant. Keep an eye on colour trends like the pantone colour of the year to see what is “in” for the year ahead.
Curtains or Blinds?
Have you thought about adding curtains or blinds to your home? This is a simple addition, and yet it can give your home an entirely new feel. But, they are not just aesthetically pleasing, they are also good for other things such as keeping your home warm.
At the moment, if you go online or to your nearest home furniture store, you will find a great range of curtains and blinds at varying prices. There is so much choice when it comes to the style and type of curtain or blind that you choose for your home. Just be sure to go with something that fits with the other furniture in your home.
Our curtain of choice for our main living area and bedrooms was boucle material in a light, natural colour tone to keep a light and airy feel to the room. The curtains are also blackout as we want to keep out the light in the morning.
We also decided to go with a voile curtain with a metallic thread to give some privacy whilst still letting in light. The metallic thread reflects in the sunlight.
curtains add a touch of elegance to the rooms but didn’t cost a huge amount to purchase. We looked online in Next and Harry Corry to hunt out some bargains 🙂
Some New Furniture
The final thing that you should think about is your furniture. When you talk about new furniture, some people automatically think of leather recliners and hand-carved wooden coffee tables, but it doesn’t have to be this extravagant. Indeed, it doesn’t have to be “new” as you can pick up some wonderful furniture pieces in second hand shops and set yourself a wee upcycling challenge. This is something we have done quite a bit off in our new home.
When it comes to furniture pieces for your home, you don’t need to be going out and buying huge items for your home. Look for small pieces that can complement the furniture you already have. Items like foot rests, a side table, some lamps or event a coffee table can make a real difference to the ambiance of a room.
The best way to do this is to think about what you are adding and how it is going to look. When you are in the store, try to imagine that you are in your living room or bedroom and this should give you a good idea about how it will look when you add it to your home.
