Tips to Creating Space in Your Home

Contemporary Living Room Design - Pikalily Blog

Clearing out your home can take a lot of time and effort (and this is coming from experience of having to totally gut out our home as part of our rebuild). Finding the time to make a considerable impact can also prove difficult. If the weekend is the only time you have free to spend creating space in your home, this is time that can very quickly be eaten up with other tasks.

As a result, you sometimes find things just don’t get done and before you know it, you’re looking at untidy rooms and a home that is full of clutter (check out some top decluttering tips here).

But don’t let your stress overtake you here; there’s plenty of ways you can clear out some space in your home, and it doesn’t have to take too much time out of your regular schedule. Hey, even your sleeping habits are going to thank you by the end of it all!

3 Tips to Creating Space in Your Home

Know the Worst Areas

If you know which areas of your home are the most prone to mess, then you’re going to have a much easier time of keeping both the upstairs and the downstairs clean and tidy. It’s a simple idea to think about, but in practice, you’re going to have to do a bit of investigating.

Where do your children tend to leave their toys? Where does your partner leave their shoes? Where do you tend to throw down papers and forget to pick them up again? Maybe it’s the coffee table, maybe it’s the counter at the end of the kitchen, maybe it’s the bookshelf that hasn’t been dusted down in years – these are all common cluttered areas of a house, so they will be a good place to start!

Store Away the Excess

If you’ve got a lot of clutter in your home, there’s a good chance you’ve got nowhere to put it all; that’s why it’s all over the floor and every uncovered surface you own! And that means you need some more storage solutions in your life, but how are they going to fit into your home as well?

Well, you could try some mounted ceiling storage in the garage, or you could slide some boxes underneath the sofa for your extraneous items that you need to have in easy reach at all times.

Or you could look into renting out some self storage, to make sure the clutter is out of your home once and for all? Don’t worry, you can always go and fetch your excess pieces of furniture back, and finally have a home for those old Sudoku books you completed a long time ago but just don’t fancy throwing away yet.

Think of Little Hands

If you want to make a difference right here and right now, and get some clutter out of the way for the good of your household, it’s time to get down on your hands and knees. This way, you’ll be at your children’s eye height, and you’ll see all the mess (and potential danger) little hands can get into!

Say Goodbye to Hoarding

Don’t worry, once you take the time to get started, you’ll quickly find several ways to start creating space in your home. Time to say goodbye to all that hoarding and welcome the space you can now look forward to in your home.

Until next time, happy cleaning guys.
